Phnom Penh: Prime Minister Hun Sen has asked the Minister of Agriculture to find a solution to amend the laws and regulations to make them in line with the interests of the people. On Saturday morning the Prime Minister asked the Minister of Agriculture to explain the case of agricultural officials seizing people's goat meat, which he said was unacceptable. In response, the Minister of Agriculture explained that the capture was to prevent the spread of various diseases.

Saturday evening saw the Prime Minister write another response urging Agriculture Minister Veng Sakhon to chair a meeting to find a solution, looking at policies, laws and regulations that need to be revised to be consistent with the situation for the benefit of the people.

He wrote: “The stage we are in is the agro-commercial stage where our farmers not only grow or raise animals to supply their families, but also to supply the market. At the same time, they consider public health issues, such as infectious diseases from animals circulating in the community.”

The Prime Minister also thanked the public for their comment in helping to improve the situation after the goat meat incident. On Saturday morning, the Prime Minister posted a video in which he expressed his sympathy to the people who were caught by agricultural officials in Kandal province, saying that it was unacceptable and urged the Minister of Agriculture to solve the problem.
